Thank you Dr. Bozeman for all that you have contributed to mathematics at Spelman and beyond! I managed to leave Spelman without sitting in your classroom, but our paths crossed regularly in the Math Lab, during advising and the UNCF summer program in Boston.
You continue to monitor our progress as we all reach new heights. You and the other math faculty are the ‘communication hub’ where we trade tales of accomplishment and marvel at the growth of the mathematics program. I get caught up whenever I come back to campus about all that Spelman women are doing with those math degrees. When we come home we can also find support, encouragement, and a push in the right direction...A few years back, someone mentioned to you that I was back in school and you sent some emails. Those words of encouragement were helpful as I made the transition from teacher to doctoral student.
You have worked tirelessly to nurture the next generation of women in mathematics. It is time for us to ‘pay it forward’. Thank you for that warm smile, those encouraging words, creating new opportunities, and your passion for mathematics. -Gayle Herrington, Class of 1993
Congratulations on this well-deserved award! I have always looked up to you as a model teacher, mentor and all-around great person, and have learned a lot from you. Thank you for being the wonderful role model that you are. Wishing you many more successes in the future.
Dr. Bozeman has been a true inspiration to mathematics majors at Spelman College during her tenure there. Her support and encouragement is priceless.
I participated as a panelist in the EDGE program, and I was truly impressed by the young ladies enrolled and the coordination of the program. Dr. Bozeman's commitment to advancing women in mathematics is remarkable.
Thank you for your support over the years, Dr. Bozeman!

I have had the pleasure of working with Sylvia Bozeman in the Mathematics Department at Spelman College for more than three decades. Sylvia, you have nurtured and enriched the lives of several generations of Spelman Women through teaching and mentoring. You have given exemplary leadership in strengthening the mathematics program at Spelman College by serving as Department Chair for 11 years; mentored and supported faculty as Director of CSAM and Associate Provost for Science and Mathematics. You continue to lead the way to diversity in graduate Education through the EDGE program. You serve as a spokesperson and role model as the first African American Woman to be elected as the Governor of the South Eastern Section of the Mathematical Association of America...the list continues!... I applaude you and appreciate you!
Thank you for contributing to this blog. Please leave your reflections, well wishes and expressions of endearment for Sylvia Bozeman who is being honored with the prestigious Etta Z. Falconer Award on November 3, 2007.
